The levels of poverty in luoland and Luhya land is almost shocking. There is a lot of poverty in mt Kenya too but it always shocks me when poverty in luoland is brought into the limelight. I have a Luhya buddy here, very good friend. He has lots of family here and they are very successful, some of them are million dollar millionaires, talking of mansions and luxury cars. One of their brothers went home and was posting on social media on where they come from, nothing to be ashamed about and it illustrates their journey but the photos were still shocking. Mud huts, crumbling outside toilets etc the usual Kenyan rural scene but watu kweli wametoka mbali.

This kind of poverty can be found everywhere in Kenya. Iss the poverty level in Turkana, Pokot, Kitui etx any better?
Even in Kiambu, the richets county on paper in Kenya, there are slums with high poverty and a lot of criminality on top.

The poverty in central kenya is even worse.Kikuyus were chased out of rift valley, they dont have land while the land in central is too small for agricultural production. In short, kikuyus dont have land that is they dont have food or livestock like pastoralists...they have to pay rent and survive in slums doing labour which is not a sustainable way of living which makes their women prostitutes at koinange or thieves in kamiti...In short kikuyus are living in poverty, they are worse than luo who have land, lake and good weather or pastoralists who have land and livestock.

All indicators show Homabay is way poverty ridden. Look at the at the area. It is too arid for any farming.  May be keep a few goats and a zebu cow. In kiambu at least a slum dweller can go to a coffee farm and make a living or hustle in construction. homabay ni shida tupu

Whatever happened to subsistence farming?
I grew up selling milk, tea, and any product. It got me to school.
There needs to be a vibrant middle class instead of the "economics ya mawe". People close to cities got super wealthy while the real people got supwer poor.

It is still there. In my area dairy farming, tea and horticulture is still the major economic activity. Still 90% of land in kiambu is used for agriculture

The world needs food. Focus should be on effective cooperatives. The swiss use them to supply food, so does USA. What is lacking is effective policy and its implementation.
