turns out this a donor funded project

way to go ... DfID and other donors should do more experiments not being stuck with conferences and seminars nonsensical development concept  ... over a 1,000 direct jobs in the construction, supermarkets, shops, apartments ... tangible development there

Donors to Kenya fund all sorts of things that do not seem to make it into the "big public news".   On roads, for example, the Swedes funded the development of rural roads for a number of years.   These were the Kibaki years, and, by amazing coincidence, GoK recommended to the Swedes that they focus on certain "very needy" regions:

Quote
"Sweden is supporting the Kenyan road sector reform which aims at improving classified roads by using adapted technology and manpower. The road programme is designed to help the poor get access to markets, to reduce transport costs and travel time and to create employment. The support is concentrated to two districts, Nyeri and Kirinyaga with a possible future expansion into the Nyanza Region near Lake Victoria".

As I recall, there was some "future expansion" in Western Kenya (after 2007), but not much.

I succumbed and was dragged to the place. It's quite huge, too big for my negro liking. That's my first and last time to visit the damn place

I think it will be causing jams getting in/out.
