Kenya slowly becoming Nigeria - fraudstars on brawl.
« on: December 30, 2022, 12:06:20 AM »
I spent sometimes with some "mulot" boys
1) Bitcoin fraud - targets wazungu. They promise to sell btc but eventually dont plus all games.
2) Cash apps/ betting fraud - again wazungu
3) More ominous they have NFC device that collect debit/credit card information.
4) Usual mulot boys mobile money fraud.

Most of them college/university kids. It's network where money moves from USA to kenya and many intermediaries - everyone getting their cut - and forwarding.

The most serious is their NFC device collect all cards within a radius.  Be careful with your cards. Disable online shopping. Or keep it at vey low max - mine at 2K usd. Once they have your card info - they buy stuff in Jumuiya - and sell them.

If allowed to grow they will end up taking Kenya to the black lists of international financial firms just like Nigeria.
This being a national threat, N.I.S should have eyes and ears in every watering hole in Mulot, Narok and Bomet.

In Kenya it just better to stay anologue in most of the banking and put restrictions on all accounts. it is such a shame that such fraud will curtail the growth of electronic banking. it is up to the government to crackdown hard and put strict laws to protect consumers data.

It almost all college/university kids - they are mostly into bitcoin and cash Apps - shaking gullible Americans mostly. I bet all these increment we are seeing in remittance are partly fraud. We are joining Nigiera.

Of 4 million bitcoin users in kenya - I bet 80% are scammers.

Nigeria is a web of crooks, these kenyans just tranfer money dire t to Kenya . Very easy to catch them as everything is done digitial wise .
I bet U.S. are already tracking the transfers they only need to pin the Kingpin and he will find himself in U.S. courts like Hushpuppi snitching all his associates .

WHich 4 million bitcoin users in Kenya? the average kenyan is too poor to own even an ounce of bitcoin.  Kenyans will never become like nigerians because they're not as bold and the leaders of these gangs will soon be ejk'd and I honestly don't think they're smart enough to steal from Americans (america has also gotten better with it's technology for fighting this kind of low level 3rd world fraud)

People are desperate they will do anything to fit Instagram lifestyle. Unemployment level of 70% is no joke.

Yeah. I don't know why kenyans keep ignoring these unemployment numbers and I keep repeating here that it's leading to the rise of people like Kibe and Amerix (they are appealing to the frustrated, jobless, poor who see no future for themselves)

I keep saying the only answer for Kenya's youth is immigration.

Somehow this individual doesnt feel or look like he has much technical skills to do what they accuse him of doing. That is my own psych profile. I feel like they are trying to hide something. Unless he is a mafia gangsta who commands a techie group.

Immigrate to where and how? We have exported thousands of mooch to middle east, thousands of Kenyans all over the world. In the end you have to grow your economy and create jobs.

4 million are from chain-analysis - I'd say almost all kipsigis college kids are now involved in these kind of scams/betting/bitcoins/credit cards. The west africans in US are ones who open the cash apps - and they share revenue - 30%. They also sell them credit cards with bitcoins which they use to shop online in kenya. Last year it was just about starting - when I reported here - now it's mainstream. Ruto has huge job to crackdown on this.

Betting and alcoholism really need serious crackdown.

From twitter - the story is same

From little I can deduce from my research with nephews
They target old bored white women - with fake betting odds or betting sites or games.
Once they have victim - they ask them to send money to cash app - of someone in US - mostly west africans.
The west african - takes 30 percent cut - and send the rest via bitcoins.
They exchange bitcoins for mpesa money

Generally small transactions - 100 dollars or about - so I guess nobody ever complain or notices. Apparently there are software that allow you to have fake betting game - where the players always lose.

Ok Nigerian style.
money laundering.
It's very hard these days especially after Russia invasion. Banks are aware so they only allow little money for transfer.

Yes they do many small transactions....they have to track bitcoin transactions...

Kenya and Nigeria are using btc to evade any money transfer hurdles.

US guy buys bitcoins - then transfer to kenya guy - kenya guy sell bitcoins locally - and get paid in Kshs.

There is is no money transfer until kenya bitcoin buyer - decide to sell his bitcoins abroad.

Yes they also engage in bitcoin fraud - where they pretend sell but dont transfer bitcoin once they received money...but they get banned...I guess once they run out of IDs and exchanges...that will end.

We don't want Nigeria reputation, especially in western capitals. In DC and LA areas, Uber drivers ask whether you are Nigerian or not before giving you a ride. Kenya need to squash these fraudsters early!

Kenya need to squash these fraudsters early!

How do you squash these fraudsters when they are no jobs? what do you want these young people to do for a living? I don't know how ruto will address the unemployment crisis, which I believe is the biggest generational problem facing the country.

What I am seeing now is that you have an entire generation of kenyans who have grown up knowing that they are no jobs and there's no point even trying to get one and even if you do, you'll make no money, you'll be taxed at 60%, its not worth it. So, I don't know how they'll stop this.

The other thing young kenyans are doing now is flocking to youtube thinking that sitting on a couch all day talking about pussy, dating and relationships will make them rich and turn them into millionaires if they get subscribers.

The founders of youtube didn't start that channel to make other people rich. They started it to make themselves rich and too many young people don't understand the algorithim.  The more viewers from Africa, the lower you'll make (advertisers want consumers in the west that can go online and buy what they are selling -- a guy in kawangware that subscribes can't buy a $300 dollar pair of sneakers.

These two things however are being driven by the terrible unemployment rate. You have to learn how to work at a young age. You should not be starting your first job at 30 or 35 that's crazy.
