I think annually I don't have actual people but I think 5MN Kenyans apply for either a birth or death certificate,ID card or passport.

This is one of the most incompetent state departments in Kenya.if these people are charged between 1000-10000 KES per person...the GOVERMENT would collect over 10BN annually while cutting down inefficiencies and corruption in these sectors.

Current situation is a mess for quick processing of birth certificate 2000 kick back...for quick processing of passport 10k.The civil servants in these offices are very rude beaureaucratic to make the system not work unless you kick back.goverment should privatise these institutions and be collecting the money that goes to corruption for social services.

They should digitize it. I remember going there to get a copy - of birth certificate - took days - upperhill - and there are people coming from all over country to Nairobi - wasting their money.

Ecitizen is good platform.

End of day - Kenya Posta need to be made to function - plus digitization.

Not digitized but privatised.....like NTSA book vehicle or machinery inspection, given a date when you go there, you meet corrupt characters...you transfer vehicle, picking logbook takes time, you search transfer property getting results takes time..you book  passport takes time to get it through...the whole process is corrupt...same as judiciary it's digital but judges and clerks are thugs.

You cannot digitize corrupt people..It's like putting cameras on KRA officials like Ruto is proposing while corruption happens outside.

Point is GOVERMENT should just outsource these services with the main point being efficient delivery and tax collection.

Otherwise civil servants are just there to make money without caring on service delivery or revenue collection.

Surely you cannot outsource birth certificate and ID.
Digitization is the way to go...
Then fixing posta....if original or paper copies need to be delivered.
You should lodge your birth certificate online...put the addres...pay via mpesa.
Birth certificate will be delivered to you...via posta or sendy or name it.
That is private part - Posta should be sold to say DHL kenya - and told to modernize it.
Every house should have a box....or at least every village center....
Or even every school.....as most people write their school box...anyway
So stick boxes in every primary school....have everyone given their rental box...for small fee.
This will make digitization works.
Otherwise now - you still need to go to huduma center or immigration or NTSA to collect original or copies.

Passport they are starting to deliver to post offices.

Ruto should really unleash Posta Kenya - by selling it.

There was a time Huduma centres were issuing the ID on the spot. Then it went to a week now it is two weeks.

Just a photo and printing taking weeks, months and years. Birth certificates should be issued by hospitals on birth. Births at home chief should deliver the birth certificate in a week or a month.
Brokers were about to kill ecitizen- Kindiki should ensure those e-documents are enough. Visiting Kinyan government offices is traumatic experiences.

Yes - besides in digital age - with gov services interconnected - why would they ask for physical copies - and keep huge physical files.
They can just query their own databases - and confirm you're a citizen.
Immigration & Births are in one dept - but you need to go to one to bring original - bla de bla - when an original ID should be more than enough.
Gov should reviews some of these old requirements -
All you need is an original ID - the rest they can get from gov databases somewhere.
The same with university degrees - police good conduct - all these should be electronically linked.
They should get electronic copy/pdf - everytime they query using your ID.

Digitisation done wrong. They need to re-design their systems.

Ruto has committed to 90% digitisation - I hope they get someone to re-look e-citizen, passport and all related services.
