You should not ask such a question if you lived in Kenya. Somalis are international business men in mould of the Gujaratis of India and the jews. Somali have totally zero fear for anything - and will go invest in the middle of ukraine if they allowed him. That risk apetitie is what makes them incredibly good business...plus their trust system works so well...
..kikuyus have both hardwork and enterprise. the combination is lethal. a kikuyu poor will work hard producing agricultural products and will use the earnings to start a real estate investment or others businesses. Somalis are slaves to retail business. that why rural poverty in that community is very high. all their capital is ties in retail and now real estate plus due to clanism only certain rich clans dominate ..add religion to the mixture and your average somali is not doing to well. use any metric to show me that Somalis are doing better than kikuyu. only the merchant class of Somalis is doing well. the rest are poor

how many Somalis are in business and what is the wealth per somali family. stop hyping a few merchants. Somalis are just in highly visible businesses plus they have other way to earn. compare them to a kikuyu that owns 20 acres to tea, rental properties and a few biasharas...majority of Somalis in nairobi are very poor.

Charcoal is not everywhere- the census data is clear.

It is very costly to transport charcoal from Marigat to Nairobi. You do it at night after bribing chiefs and KFS. Once you are fixed by KFS your vehicle is impounded and bond is set at 300K. Before you get it out of Nakuru Police, you are broke.

This makes charcoal expensive. Thus higher food costs in hotels. Higher energy budgets for households. Poor health for using firewood.  These are simple low hanging fruits.

Charcoal restrictions work on paper...charcoal is everywhere

Those regulations are set for gov officials to make money....nobody in kenya police or KFS has time to take you to court..police take 200 per road black while kfs takes 1000..If you are new in that business..it's a must you give an offering of 50000/-.once they get to know you business as usual.

Nobody follows the law in kenya..If you can get a gun or contraband sugar from Somalia through garissa or isiolo through thika and cross 20 road blocks..If can overload your trailors and cross Kenya weighdrige what can't you do?

You know nothing.
If the official sanction is 200K; Police will demand even 100K.
Dont even think of overloading a truck ; Ask Me I have been there; You're done.
KENHA systems are wired to Nairobi.

Somalis are all over - even middle of South Sudan - you find them thriving. They are very good in business. They are sweeping sector by sector. Dont even think you can compare to Kikuyus. NEVER.

You have theories; I have imported mpaka timber and charcoal; those are some worst business you can do; chance of your truck being kept for weeks is high;

Solution is to remove all that nonsense from the sector.

I have contacts in Kenha KFS Police.

The situation is worse than 2019. Impoverishment by ufool is a real thing. I heard Kihika says she will revoke Timsales licences or something.
