Country trends?  I hate it when I check for example Kenyan country trends, I see "NASA", click on it, and mostly end up with tweets about NASA(the space agency).

It seem idiotic algorithm that is based on hash tags.
So people post something totally different  - and just tag the most popular tag - so they get ranked top.
Despite being 140 words limit - they seem unable to do textual analysis

They simply need to do away with HASH TAGS and do intelligent textual analysis using AI/Natural Language Processing algorithms.

There is that one too.  But in this case, it's just plain text "NASA" appearing in the country trends.  So obviously, they have this information(about the country and the tweets).  You'd think it's then a simple case of including the specific country in whatever results they obtain from that click.

It doesnt work - except for spammers - and few influencers - who run a mafia on twitter.
Facebook is very intelligent - will almost know what you're looking for - and will recommend the best
