The woman is trying to survive, just like her fellow hawkers.
Sometimes Africans' mindset need to be brought to modern times.

They should pack and head to Booming USA where employers are struggling for find employees. Making $20 an hour, instead of an a day  is more appealing!

With Africans it's very difficult to be innovative. Africans are very small-minded. Also, they are very insecure but would never admit it. I see the very same behavior on this forum. There are some people here who never got the negative aspects of village life removed from them, even after venturing abroad. For example, there are some Africans in America who can describe in detail every bar in their areas. Others can even describe to you what kind of underwear their tribal heroes wear. But they know absolutely nothing about the libraries in their neighborhoods, despite the fact that America has wonderful libraries. What really gets me is when they want you to join them in their opuuzi. I will never. Nothing gets an African madder than refusing to jump into the gutter with him/her, especially if it's filled with tribal stupidity. An African would rather surround himself/herself in familiar tribal madness than venture into the uncertainty of something new, but which could prove liberating and enriching later on.
