It's outrageous to have 12,000 police officers guarding few individuals, their private property and their girlfriends.
This is where real outrage is needed...I hope this debate continues...and somehow all VIPS protections are released.

12K times 500usd a month in total cost of a police officer is a lot of money - 72M dollars. That is roughly 10B kshs annually spend to guard maybe 400 people.
This is why these people will die to be in gov - even if they are in opposition - they will sell their mother - because there is just TOO MANY privelleges in being a politician connected to gov.
Even the idea of MPs having public funded bodyguards is a big joke. The MPs as the people's representatives should feel the heat on the ground in case there is any insecurity in the country. Public funded security should be limited to a small number of officials or those thought to be under any threat.
In most countries even ordinary members of the public can get police protection in case there is a real threat to their lives.
