Yeah it would be beautiful...you have to buy maize from Njamba cousin pale kimende..I think in Kenya best maize I have bought consistently...definitely in Narok Nairage Enaikere - the maize from Ensoopukia just has no comparison - must be the volcanic soil. Next is either one at Londiani or after Burnt Forest. Then kiambu one before you descend to Kijabe. Definitely sweatiest corn or maize is from red volcanic soil.

Flipping land is good but the long term effects are disastrous. Too expensive to buy property to build a factory etc. There is need for land use planning laws - minimum for rural must be 5 acres. Subdivide only for commercial use eg only for retail, factory, etc and must build immediately to avoid 50% tax. Flippers can destroy communities.

Let market forces determine stuff in natural and intelligent way it always does.

There are many cheap land in places like Turkana or Marsabit. Once infrastructure reach there - those who want big land - can acquire as much they want.

Land only get expensive because of infrastructure deficit - once we build roads everywhere, piped water everywhere, and provide electricity everywhere - then we unlock huge idle land in ASAL region.

Stop romancing the environment. This roads will allow people to get to Nyeri from Limuru easily - without going to Thika. This will also open up new tourist routes and lots of nice little lodges will come up along the area - especially on the aberdares.

And this road will actually allow more people to enjoy all those nice waterfalls, forest and rolling hills;

It will destroy that corridor, people are so myopic.

Turkana has more arable land than Nyanza and Western combined. All it needs is water - the water that is available underground. Beneath Turkana is huge underground aquifer...like the one in darfur....remember there are many lakes  underground buried by Sahara deserts sands.
Some of underground lakes in turkana have fresh water - some have salty water - that can be de-salinated using all that free sun solar energy.

Pundit, it seems you have not been catching the news how the climate in California has flipped in the last few years. Nature has struck back and with revenge. The question now open is if the farming activities in California will be sustainable in the next decades.
Btw, Colorado river has dried up and the 2nd biggest water reservoir in California, Lake Oroville is at its lowest level in history. All is not rosy in California as you paint it.

I am sure it will rain again; the drought will end; In any case California has reached economic levels; they need to stop wasting water growing some of the useless food. Those California farmers should come to Africa and farm. They can start with Turkana. We can give them land with water. And they can use their expertise, cheap turkana labour and make money

The future of farming in Kenya is in Northern Kenya and Coast - and of course Nyanza - need to be irrigated. Those places are ideal for farming - compared to cold kericho or kiambu.

Serious farming require a lot of sun and water - Kericho has water but not enough sunlight - so crops take longer to grow. If we farm in Turkana - with all that sunlight - maize would mature in 4 months - not 6-8 months like in my place. Crops that takes 3 months - would be ready in 2 months. Just like summer farming in temperate climate - in few months of summer - they produce more than we do every year.

Not all the acquifers are salty. Beside with the free solar sun in there - it can be desalinated.
I think some of huge acquifiers are fresh.
Obviously I am not sure if they can be mined.

It a desert that is irrigated.
Turkana do not even know the value of farming.
They wont mind.
 Beside Turkana themselves can become farmers....but someone need to invest in harvesting the underground water

Kericho or Kiambu contrary to your thinking are NOT ideal for most agriculture except maybe tea.

Most crops do well in sun-baked turkana with good soils - they require sunlight, warmth and some water - and good soil.

Turkana has some of the best soil...and it so huge...it enough for everyone.
