IEBC - interview - my top four public pick
« on: July 23, 2021, 04:38:04 PM »
IEBC needs 4 commissioners to replace the four that quit
1) Muli -   That she hasn't been hired previously is strange - but she has most experience in electoral matters and reforms.
2) Prof Amutabi - The Bunyore Prof knows a lot of history, has lots of academic experience in election matters, and come out as a man of integrity
3) Prof Naboo- Turkana and disabled - Long experience prof - seem stable hand and very strong academic background
4) Throw any of the other women here - For gender balance as long as they do not belong to the tribes of serving commissioners.

They just need to be amenable to election-referendum combo. The long-winding resumes - like GMO Biochem Prof Oduor - is hardly an indicator of competence.

I wonder why that question was not posed in the interviews. These people will not be picked on technical competence.

Unless you think Uhuru has the panel - which I don't he has - then this will be free and fair process - and uhuru will be given 4 names only - and like he appointed this selection panel - his role is ceremonial

The current panel was selected from religious organisations (2 christians, 1 muslim), LSK (1); I am not sure about the 3 other commissioners; but parliament (PSC) lead the process - and PSC as far as I know is split 50-50 - with Ruto having slight edge.

So Uhuru is really a conveyor belt.

We will see. Public Service Commission I think picked 1 or 2 members. These people will not be picked for technical competence anymore than Akombe or Nkatha - pure political hacks. Same "independent panel" was used. Who would have guessed those JSC guys would play Uhuru game?

IEBC already seems hostile to Ruto - I think they have petitoned to postpone elections until boundary reviews? It was a blunder for Ndii, Havi - Ruto crew - to pick quarrel with Chebukati with noise about quorum.

Ruto's new NGO friends are more quarrelsome and abhorrent or politically inept than Uhuru's Kibichos and Murathes. He needs to distance himself otherwise expect big pointless fights against IEBC, new commissioners, name it.

IEBC are not going to help you unless it was pretty close election.
When did IEBC petition for postphoning eleciton due to boundary reviews? Are you crazy or what - IEBC have min 8-max 12yrs to review boundaries - we are about 10 yrs - they can still do boundary review in 2022.

Anyway JSC despite Koome being CJ did a fairly good job.

We are not looking for 100 percent - we are looking for fair job - and so far kenya has come along way - from when people were handpicked.

By the time the nominees go through the panel, uhuru, back to parliament, back to uhuru, with public airing any dirt on them, we should will end up with people of integrity.

Those who think IEBC will do their whims - will come again crying - because voters are out there - not at IEBC - and final polling station is not Bomas or KICC - it at 50K polling stations.

All the actions will be on 50k polling stations.

My bad I see it Havi seniors in African LSK. I am glad Tangatanga believe elections will be free and fair - hope Pundit will not backpedal and threaten poor diaspora with genocide when the going gets tough.

AU court gives nod to postpone elections over covid

Advisory opinion
The Pan-African Lawyers Union (Palu), which sought the advisory opinion, had asked the court to issue rules and guidelines for postponement of elections by AU members. Palu draws its membership from lawyers and law societies in African countries, and has been formally recognised by the AU since 2006. Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi said they were not part of the process.

I don't see IEBC rigging election as big risk - what I see is violence to disenfranchise voters like NASA tried in 2017, in Kibra and in many by-elections, where the police allow goons to cause chaos, especially in say GEMA - but in general elections - everyone has stakes - so MCAs, Mps, name them - all want clean election - so that may not work - and police will go rogue anyway.

IEBC are helpless - after Maina KIa rulling - all the actions will be in polling stations - and Ruto has to work on proper parrallel tallying and reporting center - and any rigging attempts will be easy to prove at Supreme court.

As for postponing elections - I dont think Uhuru has the guts to do that - Kenyattas have so much to lose by inciting war and revolution in kenya.

Even Moi by late 90s knew there are things he could not do. Let the try that nonsense of postponing elections - so they can see how slippery it will get.Ethiopia went to war for such kind of nonsense. Election will be done with covid-19 protocols like life is continuing now.

Anyone who is pushing for election postponing 1yr to election is just afraid of losing in 2022 - and will lose more votes

My bad I see it Havi seniors in African LSK. I am glad Tangatanga believe elections will be free and fair - hope Pundit will not backpedal and threaten poor diaspora with genocide when the going gets tough.

I knew you would be back to threats in a Mavoko minute. Postponement wouldn't only affect Ruto but all candidates. These are AU LAWYERS not Uhuru. Anyway this is only a civilized facade: one unfriendly decision by IEBC and you will be off the rails.. we saw Tangatanga reaction to Koome agreement to partial swearing in minus Odunga. The hail of insults and threats is fresh all over social media.

I actually expect little less. The tantrums over Gachagua arrest is small kionjo of hustler true colors.

There are red lines Uhuru cannot cross my friend. If he dares; then he will know Mama Ngina is just like any woman in Kenya.
