Don't steal. The Uhuruto Government hates competition.

Kudos to Gicheru. It not just empty talk about climate change - it action like this - that will reverse or delay climate change

Moi was committed to tree planting. That committment we dont have now. It just people shouting Mau Mau.

What need to happen is schools should become centers for propagating seedlings and then during holidays like today - people should be given it for free.

KFS should provide all the schools with tree seedlings and the soil pockets - and then kids can do it as part of their CBC and as part of their training to learn about enviroment.

Kids should be enocuraged to plant and take care of trees. Also if the goal is to hit 10 percent of tree cover - then make everyone contribute their 10 percent by reserving 10 percent of their land to plant trees - if they cannot find 10 percent - they can go to public land like roads and plant trees there.

In no time we should have planted millions if not billions of trees.

Climate change will not be reversed by piece meal tree planting exercise. It will take returning the soil back to its former condition as a carbon sink. Right now our soils are releasing carbon at alarming rate, the reason former breadbasket regions are desertifying, their crop yields decreasing every year. The unlikely protentional saviors could be grazing animals if well managed. Look at nature, millions of migrating wildebeest and other ruminants enrich the soil with their dung, urine and trampling, the result is grass grows greener every season, carbon is sequestered and water cycle is replenished. This natural balance has been going on for millennia, we need to properly managed domestic livestock to mimic nature to restore degraded lands. Planting one tree here and there won't cut it. Most of our lands were rangelands not tree forests to begin with.

Moi was committed to tree planting. That committment we dont have now. It just people shouting Mau Mau.

Stop trolling. Moi was the villain in the worst environmental catastrophe visited on this country, Mau catchment encroachment commenced under him.

That pure lie. Moi was greatest enviromentalist in kenya. Mau and other forest excision were done under the advice of WB to deal with Okiek and landless invaders once and for all. Moi remember planted tea zones that provided a boundary to stop excession - Narok county then approached Moi to do the same in Mau.

Besides Nyayo tea zones - Moi led in many conservation efforts - we planted gazillion of trees growing up - our areas were really green and full of trees - every month or so - forest service issued free seddling.

Trees were planted to line up roads. Moi built gabions in baringo and Ukambani. Moi made it clear that cut one tree and plant two.

Enviromental protection is not just shouting about Mau or Karura or Uhuru park - it has been part and parcel of life. It not someone like you or Raila who have never planted a single tree - it a commitment to plant trees and secure trees, animals - that need to be cultivated in everyone.

Unless all the 7 Billion humans are involved - we cannot reverse the climate change.

Kenya need to do that. Ethiopia is doing it - planting billions of trees.

I know Ruto when he comes will plant billions of trees.

As for theories - about carbon sink - we leave that to scientists - but we keep some self-evident truth that we need trees at least to sink our carbon dioxide at the micro-level, for animals and other things to thrive.

Stop trolling. Moi was the villain in the worst environmental catastrophe visited on this country, Mau catchment encroachment commenced under him.

My fren that is the sanitized Kipsigis version, here is the real version:

In 2010, the elder Moi owned up to having a stake in Kiptagich Tea Factory in Mau forest. He insisted, however, that the land stands on the edge of the Mau forest and not inside the water tower. He said that the Narok County Council allocated him the property.

By the way everything is corroborated by the PM taskforce report on Mau of 2010. Moi didn't need permission from WB to resettle Ogiek, rather he and his cronies kicked out the forest dwellers and grabbed massive tracts of land.

Nyar, you're mixing issues, Mau, Mt Kenya, Embotutu, name it, all the forest given out had already been destroyed by landless people, and Moi solution was to demarcate the boundary using tea zones (or now fencing) - after settling the landless issues.

Moi and his henchmen then took the landless land - and allocate it to themselves - stealing from the poor forest dwellers.

That is CORRUPTION. The land had to be excised to settle Okiek who are forest dwellers and then fenced off.

Moi was SUPER CORRUPT but he was an educator and conservator. That you cannot take away from him.

If you cut down a whole forest ecosystem what use is it then to plant one tree here and there as a replacement. Too little, too late. Surely it is better to leave virgin forests intact rather than replanting inferior imitations later on. Raila's brave politically unpopular decision actually saved that crucial catchment for Kenyans, he will be remembered for that unlike your compromised watermelon who opposed it on and off.

Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Friday led a strong team of Cabinet ministers, MPs and diplomats in planting 20,000 tree seedlings to launch the Mau Forest rehabilitation plan.

Ogieks have been part and parcel of the forest system since time immemorial, it the latter squatters who have fucked up the forest.

I know Ruto when he comes will plant billions of trees.
