At first in 2018 Uhuru was against a referendumn in 2019 he became wishy washy and decided if it was going to be changed then it was going to be changed his way .This translates to it was not his priority. His priority was as you say finishing his term and looting peacefully .
Meanwhile the BBI drama managed him to do so as he could silence Raila and Keep Ruto at arms length as he looted silently.
Now after looting his next priority is to safeguard the loot. Uhurus cronies seem to be fearing Ruto because they waged an unecessary war with him and kept him away from looting. This is the Dileema Uhuru and his cronies find themselves in.

Now Raila and his followers for a first time know he stands no chance in 2022 elections hence for them they pray for miracle . One the miracle is Mt Kenya supporting Raila. This wont happen.

Yes Uhuru and his lackeys knows they have mistreated Ruto; But Ruto unlike Raila is not interested in the past; I believe the next phase is for Uhuru and his gov lackeys to negotiate with Ruto. Uhuru political wing is already negotiating with Ruto - and most have already crossed the floor.

Uhuru negotiating position though is becoming weaker and weaker - post-Kiambaa if UDA wins both seats - he will only be able to negotiate as Kenyatta family - not as Mt Kenya leader.

Initially if he had negotiated - he would had even forced Ruto to pick DPORK of Kenyatta family choice - but he is denial lame-duck wise and his stock in trade keep dropping.

So now Mt Kenya will negotiate with Ruto independent of Kenyatta. Kenyatta family will negotiate on their own behalf - mostly to protect their loot and ensure their business are not affected going forward. The Moi family the same. I really doubt Kenyatta or Moi would struck a deal with Odingas and go to bed. There is just too much bad blood btw them. With Ruto - it just an afternoon tea - because Ruto also is not clean - and is not interested in digging up skletons.
