First is a disclaimer, Its evident Murathe is vocal irrational person , He  always purports  to speak for Uhuru and by extension Mt Kenya which actually he has no control nor influence over , well apart from being Uhurus drunk buddy. He has a real grudge against Ruto , I will dwell on that a later stage

Former Gatanga MP, Uhuru loyalist and current Jubilee Party vice-chair David Murathe, stocked political fires when he recently declared that Central Kenya voters would not automatically pick Deputy President William Ruto, the presumed heir-apparent, for the big job when Uhuru retires in 2022 since, in his own words, the Kikuyu community does not owe him any political debt for joining forces with Uhuru ahead of the 2013 presidential elections.

Murathe made the remarks during the Maragoli Cultural Festival in Vihiga where he let it known that Central Kenya, and by extension the Mt Kenya region, will support former Vice President Musalia Mudavadi if the Luhya Nation agrees to rally behind his candidature.

Murathe being himself decided to make chaos out of the nominations so as he could sell the nomination certificate . Mt Kenya politicians paid hefty sums of money to Murathe but intelligence got to UhuRuton and overseeing the nominations was re-assigned to Ruto. The results were evident the politicians who won the repeat nominations eventually won the elections.
This lead to a fall out between Ruto and the politicians who had bought nomination certificates and and lost in the repeat nominations . Post 2017 elections they teamed up with Murathe and theirs is now a campaign to ensure Ruto does not ascend to presidency

Former Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe and Baringo Senator are two men on a mission.After months of burning midnight oil, the two leaders who are also very close to President Uhuru Kenyatta have joined hands to finish William Ruto politically.

David Murathe is said to be assembling a team of former parliamentarians from Mt Kenya who were rigged out by William Ruto during the Jubilee nominations.The team is said to comprise of Peter Kenneth, Martha Karua,William Kabogo, Ephraim Maina, Mutahi Kagwe and other prominent names.The main aim of this group is to rally Mt Kenya against the DP as well as mobilize support for the handshake.

”We have been meeting with grass root leaders to inform them why it is important to have our house in order. Murathe has been than link to help us mobilize ground support against Ruto,” said one of the associates of the former Jubilee Vice Chair.

Baringo Senator on the other hand is tasked with assembling anti-Ruto forces in the Rift Valley and it is speculated there will be a meeting at Kabarak in coming weeks, bringing together Rift Valley leaders supporting Senator Moi’s bid.

Prominent individuals Gideon Moi has managed to bring to his fold include former Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto, billionaire businessman Zedekiah Kiprop Bundotich, Governor Alex Tolgos, MP Joshua Kutuny, William Kamkatet, Alfred Keter among others

Murathe’s old guy, William Gatuhi Murathe, was a prominent businessman who  owned the famous WG Murathe Wines and Spirits. The venture was only rivalled by Central Kenya Agencies, also a wines and spirits business operated by the family of the late Philip Gachoka, father of Tony Gachoka.

Tony is the former chief of protocol when Raila Odinga was Prime Minister during the nusu mkate government of retired President Mwai Kibaki

The Murathes and the Gachokas were based in Thika, where they also dabbled in coffee, transport and real estate business.

The Gachokas controlled Central Kenya, while the Murathes had Nairobi and its environs

Its instructive to note that Peter Keneth and Murathe are former Gatanga Mps , Murathe served from 1998 to 2002 and Peter Kenneth served from 2003 to 2012.They are actually neighbours in Kirwara village in Gatanga .

In 2017 elections its Murathe who tried to sneak in Peter Kenneth as Jubillees candidate in the Nairobi Governor nominee elections . It took Uhurus and Rutos intervention to hand the certificate to Sonko

Details have emerged of what allegedly went on behind the scenes before Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko was handed the Jubilee nomination ticket, for the Capital’s gubernatorial race.
According to reports, President Uhuru Kenyatta wanted to hand a direct ticket to gubernatorial aspirant Peter Kenneth but Sonko became hard to convince.

The President’s decision was supported by key persons in Government including Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe and a team of powerful elders from Murang’a led by Maina Wanjigi, father of Jimmy Wanjigi.

Upon realizing this, it is said that Sonko vowed to unleash incriminating video and audio recordings of top Jubilee officials, if Jubilee did not hold primaries for the Governor’s seat in Nairobi County.


“The tapes are damaging and, should Sonko release them, the Jubilee campaign would be shattered,” a report by the Star indicated.

After Sonko refused to step down for Mr. Kenneth, Deputy President William Ruto is said to have seen it as an opportunity to throw off the former Gatanga MP, who it was earlier speculated that he was being groomed for the 2022 Presidential race.

“Ruto saw the opportunity to fix Kenneth because of his 2022 ambitions. State House officials, on the other hand, were scared that their dealings with Sonko would be exposed,”  the Star quoted.

It is after the fears were raised that it was finally decided that Nairobi Governor seat would be open for nominations.

Kenneth was defeated by Sonko in the Jubilee primaries, in which he garnered 62,504 while the flamboyant Senator got a whopping 138,185 votes.

The 2013 Presidential candidate protested against the nomination exercise terming it as rigged.

He wrote to the Jubilee Party tribunal raising his complaints but according to Kenneth the party never responded.

On Friday, he announced that he will still contest for the Nairobi seat as an independent candidate.

At the same time, Sonko has since dismissed claims concerning the blackmail as mere propaganda.

“That I have tapes is cheap propaganda. I have never recorded anyone and neither have I blackmailed anyone to support me. The President should not be dragged into this matter.

“The DP and other people have decided to support me because I won the Jubilee nomination in a fair contest,” said Sonko.

On Monday, Kenneth reiterated that President Kenyatta had a hand in the shambolic primaries but there were cartels in the party who wanted certain people to win.

"There was no iota of evidence linking President Uhuru to what we witnessed in the Jubilee party primaries. We have now know that what happened was played in connection to 2022 politics," Kenneth said during an interview on NTV.
