People with PhDs are like celebs, they don't run the system, are ignored by those who do, and are hindered by intellectualising. Weak leaders intellectualise matters and I see that with Ruto which was the same chip Raila used to have. People forget what a prodigy Raila was.
I went to 4 vision setting meetings this week. The first was a strategy for the whole institution and that was rubbish. The second was at the local level and that was rubbish. The third was watching celebs discuss the future of peer review and that was rubbish. The other was a meeting with admin staff and librarians where we discussed the weaknesses and strengths in scopus, scival, incites, and other platforms and speculated on how evil companies might be monopolising outputs to shackle institutions to their beloved rankings. We quietly and fervently discussed strategies on fighting evil by shifting data collection away from impact factors and prestige. The fact we have authority to do this because those higher up are too occupied with promoting themselves was empowering. I guess my point is when celebs intellectualise rather than consult, consult and consult like RAO, then they are best off dreaming up unicorns and being royally pissed off rude, white & entitled in public like Ruto, and stay the fk outta the fire.
