Humiliation of Mwangi Kiunjuri is complete
« on: October 06, 2018, 11:40:30 AM »
Even worse is that Kiunjuri can't resign as the DCI & DPP dogs of war will dust some files and chase him to an early political grave. Seems he should have said to hell and run for Laikipia governor - even by losing he would have had some bargaining balls.  Holding a government job is going to be as stressful as hell as cash crunches bite - It remains to be seen even whether there is money to pay the farmers by next week.

Wairia who is now picking Ndakaini dam war (while Nortlands require all the water for its construction and future supplies) has to be ready for the dog fight as Uhuru is determined to behead anybody from Kikuyuland. Given Kiunjuri and Kamau fate Wairia need to take the bull by its horns and build his reputation whether in the courts or in jail.

Next on the annihilation list is Eugene - corruption in those dams will easily bring him down to his knees. With counties getting only 5 billion treasury so far, he has to deciode whether he watches strangling of counties despite Trans Nzoia governorship seeming a walk in the park for him.

The political blowback that is soon coming as economy tanks  will shake Uhuru who currently thinks that he can win this long drawn batlle through his naive coinceited lone ranger tactics.

Kiunjuri has a chance to reform agriculture sector but he's not doing anything about it. If only he could have the balls to liberalize the sector. Maize he needs to limit government involvement to just buying maize reserves. NCPB needs to be restructured to just warehousing. In the coffee, nuts(macadamia & cashew nuts) needs to change regulations and liberalize. Government involvement in agriculture is what has led to decline in yields and productivity. Livestock and fisheries is the low hanging fruit and yet he's doing nothing.

Agreed.NCPB should be privatized and allowed to buy all cereals. Again we need to do more about Irish Potatos - our second most important crop/.

There is no political will to do away or restructure these parastatals - they are prime political capital despite fact that  they have little  benefit to producers and consumers despite massive budget allocations which are easy to wire out.

This is kenyan biggest problem. Kenya is just not a free market , private sector driven economy. Government controls wide swath of the economy. Agriculture is probably the most egregious. Even in petroleum the ERC sets the price of oil. In finances and telecommunication government owns over 20% of the biggest companies in the sector. This means treasury has undue influence in the sector.

Seems like he has eaten or shown appetite for Uhuru goat or cake. The way emotional Uhuru is on him shows he won't be resting easy.

Uhuru is just feigning outrage. He probably got a report on how farmers are unhappy with his administration. Jimnah mbaru had a good idea which should be implemented, a warehousing receipt system, a precursor to a fully liberalized market solution  https://www.nation.co.ke/business/NCPB-receipting-system-launched/996-1001912-14189ocz/index.html . This collapsed after jubilee administration took over. This is the longterm solution to the grains market in kenya. The problem with jubilee government is its bureaucratic believe that government is the solution(crony capitalism).

Sugar and Maize makes for a sad reading. It about time we really bite the bullet and allow free trade in maize & sugar - and let the chips fall.

Actually liberalization will enable those regions to diversify. Mind you sugar industry developed from 1960s policy of import substitution. Its not that sugar growing areas and even maize can grow those crops at globally competitive prices.
