Starting to look like a bad idea to split Sudan.

Bashir stands a greater chance of bringing peace to South Sudan than the other regional dictators.

It has been said again and again that only real enemies can make peace. Finally Kiir went to talk to the real enemy.

Not that I think Kiir is right... on the contrary I think he is a bigger problem than Machar. He broke the SPLA and has issues even among his own Dinkas.

Uganda could not be a peacemaker because it is heavily pro- Dinka and has arms and troops heavily invested in SA. Kenya is basically a Dinka Bank just like Switzerland was Hitler's bank. The Dinka's could never hurt Kenya. Machar's people also bank and invest in Kenya. Bank Managers cannot make peace between you and your wife etc.

Ethiopia though somewhat "neutral" is too unstable at the moment to guarantee peace. Ethiopia as a country could mediate. Unfortunately a country alone without a leader with a track record does not wash. Some individual respect goes with it. Personal aura if you will. Meles could have done but he was too clouded by his dispute with Eritrea to realize when he supported Machar, Eritrea supported Kiir and vice versa. Both countries have too many of their citizens in South Sudan to risk taking sides to a large extent. Ask Uganda the price she paid when Museveni took sides while his citizens were all over South Sudan. Afwerki is a nutjob and simply no mediator.

That leaves Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi. The last two ... sahau. South Sudan doesnt think Rwanda has recovered from civil war to dictate to them and they are an arrogant people. Burundi just does not arise.

Now Tanzania is too far and basically not interested or interesting.

That is why only Bashir can make peace in SA

Bashir is interested in SSR Oil. Museveni is just interested in stopping nilotic north from overthrowing him. That leaves for me Kenya & Ethiopia are true umpires.

Uganda and Sudan have been fighting a proxy war in South Sudan.  This is more like a deal between Museveni and Bashir.

Precisely. The lose here is South Sudan. M7 will be taking their gold - and Bashir - their oil.
