The metamorphosis of a first time Governor from Western Kenya months after he got the plum post has left some residents of the county regretting why they voted out his predecessor. After he was sworn into to office, the new county boss resorted to radical austerity measures.

First he made his office a no-go-zone and instead chose to meet people at the grassroots. This has starved some mandarins around his office who used to cash in on the delegations by inflating figures.

The Governor also does not give out hand-outs during his meet the people tours, a fact that has not gone down well with residents who had been accustomed to the largesse of the previous office holder.

The story is told as if the new governor is some sort of nasty person.

What I find even more curious are the vague references to the person.  Why can't they name the governor?

Absolutely.  Handouts have made Kenya. A few benefit but most are left struggling day to day. Corruption starts at the top.

This is likely Wycliffe Wangamati. Lusaka was rather magnanimous considering what he doled out on those stainless wheelbarrows.

I have watched a few of the roundtables - by Kiguta, Madowo, etc - I dare say the "Gema media" has attempted to walk the thin professional line. The slanted news in the US tells much about the politicality of the media. Even nascent media like Facebook and YouTube are accused of political bias. What we need in Kenya is a balance in the airwaves so that viewers have a choice of news flavor. The owners call the shots.
