All this done without an Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission.  Just regular CID so to speak.  All the more reason why the problem is not so much a lack of institutions as it is the culture.  In Kenya, the solution is to always come up with more bureaucracies with fancy names and hope that people can move on.

If you had any sense of justice in Kenya you might have all living former presidents wallowing in prison.

If I were the one in charge, I would actually go to parliament to secure them life long immunity and sumptuous retirement packages double what they have, fete them publicly, then slit their throats and blame Kikuyu criminals led by a certain internet pastor.

Kenya is unique in Africa.  They have had more or less the same group of crooks at the helm or very near the helm since independence.  There is an unspoken agreement to protect one another come what may.  Anybody that looks like he might have a shot is co-opted into the circle.  The end result is whoever ends up in power would be opening a can of worms he'd rather not if they go after the fraudsters.

Sounds like jungle rule. Sorry I prefer the current system of impunity.

Contrast this with civilization - say South Korea - where immediate ex-president Park Guen-hye was just impeached for corruption & influence peddling - now cooling her heels in a jail cell.

Or Pakistan where the Supreme Court sent Nawaz Sharif home for the Panama Papers which cited his family for illicit banking. The same papers that name Uhuru's family, Justice Rawal and others who are sitting pretty.

Yes -- though I don't recall the Kenyattas during Panama - we're years from civilization. I expect us to go through your elimination stage - the one you promised to apply On Uhuru, Moi & Kibaki once Raila names you attorney general.

It's not only politicians - but kenya is free-for-all - if you have money & some influence. Many are arrested and arraigned in court - but they end up corrupting the whole systems - end results - nobody goes to jail. Only those too poor or stupid to afford.

Pundit really loves impunity. I recall him saying he cannot move to the US because they follow the law there. He says unsavory stuff too - about availability of cheap women of loose morals in Nairobi, etc. Imagine what kind of "change" he would push for under Ruto  :o

You're right - I am liberal to an extend I think am anarchist - I tend to think some level of impunity - is ultimately the true definition of freedom and liberty. Too much rules that can't be bend can be very shackling. I want to able to make minor mistake and get away with it sometime. I don't want a regime that punish you for any minor infraction/misdemeanor...but murder/raping/causing physical injury - should be punished. The rest should be fineable - and instantly. Right now they are fineable instantly in kenya - via corruption/bribes.

:o :-\ Such a "liberal" spin of corruption! What the police do is corruption, theft and fraud - not "instant fine". OMG!!

Pundit how about ethnic cleansing? -should it be punished alongside murder and rape - or "instantly fined"?

Most of what we call corruption in Kenya is really straight up fraud and embezzlement.  The idea of Kenya tackling corruption in general sense is not even on the horizon.

What are you alleging? That I support ethnic cleansing?  I think serious crimes ought to be punishable. The rest should be fineable. In kenya you know the price for any crime - the police have going rates - sadly it's include murder. If you kill somebody - the police can ask for say 1m - and you'll be free - unless you killed somebody so powerful or richer than you. The same is true for any crime - there are corruption rates --- small traffic offence  - you know those.

You know in africa or kalenjin traditional - the was always the option to pay fine (compensation in cattle) for any crime including murder. There was also an exception that the relative of those your murdered could exact their revenge and murder you. And there was distinction btw small crimes and sin (murder, etc).

Anyway what I don't like about developed world esp US is getting a long rapsheet just because you have traffic violation or smoked weed. What I admire is that everyone is held to account no matter the position.

You said WSR has "quivers" which include 1m kikuyus in RV in case Gema renege on the tribal deal. And that for kalenjin muder is sport - an extension of cattle rustling & initiation rituals, etc. So I read between the lines.

Brazil's Lula is also having a difficult time getting away with it.  He is already going to prison for getting some money to refurbish an apartment from kickbacks.  Yet he still faces more charges https://www.reuters.com/article/us-brazil-corruption-lula-idUSKBN1AH5HW.

Good news. I think only Eastern Africa and the likes of Syria will continue to nurture impunity in future. Even super-poor Malawi is ahead.
