A story is told of how Jackson Harvester M' Nchebere Angaine the self styled king of the Ameru and first Lands Minister in Independent Kenya dozed off during a vote tallying exercise and caused serious panic to his party agents, supporters and aides. Initial results trickling in had Angaine's main opponent leading by a big margin.
Yet here Angaine sat half dozing on a front seat at Meru town's Kamunde Hall the constituency tallying centre.
It is said that anytime the panicky aides tried to wake up the old man, all he asked them was... ' Cia Ontulili igukinya?'.... That's Greek for, Are the votes from Ontulili in yet?... Ontulili was and is still an area the legendary Angaine had offered land and resettled all his diehard supporters.
So the aides would say...'itakinya' and he would doze off again undisturbed.
Needless to say when Ontulili votes arrived, the old man who by then was almost 20k votes behind his opponent would then overtake the opponent by over 50k votes despite the fact that the children, women, men and aliens of Ontulili being less than 10k in number.
He would then be declared the winner as he dozed off once again.
Moral of the Story
Cia Ontulili in this elections will come from the silent farmer, fisherman, mama mboga, chang'aa seller and drinker somewhere. The silent majority who know where the shoe pinches most despite them not being masters in hashtags, selfies and 4G & WiFi manenos.
