Kakamega & Samburu ODM Results
« on: April 16, 2017, 03:16:28 PM »
Both are ODM strongholds which Jubilee wants at all costs and has spent millions on MPs. Some of the MPs have paid a heavy price for their past dalliance with Ruto.

Three ODM MPs who lost in the Kakamega primaries on Saturday have threatened to move to court.

Butere's Andrew Toboso, Silverse Anami of Shinyalu and Raphael Otaalo of Lurambi said on Sunday that they want the results nullified.

They claimed there were malpractices in the entire process.

Toboso garnered 8,448 votes to lose to Habil Nagendo who got 10,378. Amani got 3,432 votes against Kizito Mugali's 9,034 while Otaalo lost to Stanely Khainga after getting 3,518 votes against the latter's 11,600.

The nominations for Khwisero constituency are set for rescheduling as the ballot papers arrived very late.

The exercise was delayed following hitches with members' registers; those whose names were not in the lists were turned away.

The primaries were to begin at 8am but ballot papers had not been taken to some polling stations by 11am.

Otaalo said he was disappointed with the manner in which the entire exercise was conducted. He claimed there was a "hidden agenda" to rig some of the candidates in.

Samburu aspirant demand repeat

Candidates in the party's primaries in Samburu county demanded a repeat claiming there was rigging and that voters were transported from other areas.

Led by Robert Lomerketo, they also threatened to go to court to have the nominations nullified and another date set for a fresh vote.

Lemerketo lost by 320 votes to Lenas Leshore who got 977 for the Samburu East parliamentary seat.

He said they will ask the county elections board to cancel the results as the exercise was "not free and fair" and some polling stations were opened at 3pm.

"I will personally protest and complain to the office. I will ask them to repeat the exercise," said Lemerketo.

The aspirant claimed he found 89 ballot papers, pre-marked in his favour, in a bush near Wamba market. He said he reported the matter at Wamba police station under OB number 6/16/04/2017.

Lemerketo added that some of this supporters did not get a chance to vote since they could not wait until the afternoon.

"My supporters are pastoralists. They left their livestock unattended to come and vote for me...they had to go back to herd," he said.

Etees Amu, an aspirant for Maralal MCA, said he will go to court on Monday to challenge the outcome of the nominations. His opponent Emily Lepalsula got 1,155 votes against his 417.

Amu accused Lepalsula of transporting voters from other areas and moving around the ward with presiding officers in her vehicle.

"I have evidence that she was transporting voters using her personal vehicle," he said.

But aspirants who won the primaties told different stories.

Lepalsula said the exercise in Maralal ward, Samburu West, was free, fair and peaceful.

She said it was normal for politicians to "cause unnecessary tension after sensing defeat".

The politician told her opponents to accept defeat and support those that have won.

"There is always a winner and a loser in every game. Politics is also a game," she said.

She added that she would not afraid of a repeat as "the same people who voted for me will still vote again and I am not afraid of defeat".

Lenas Leshore who is eying the Samburu East MP seat aspirant said that the process was free and fair.

Leshore said there was some confusion due to the delays and lack of registers but that the process went on well.

But the son of Samburu Senator Sammy Leshore said that most people did not vote since many polling stations were opened late.

"Some of our supporters gave up and went back to the fields to herd their livestock," he said, noting they had been promised that voting would begin at 7am.
