Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi has asked the President to back DP William Ruto and be his running mate in the 2017 general election.

This will demonstrate goodwill by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto, he said, noting it has happened in Russia.

"Uhuru's genuineness should be seen," he told a group of more than 60 Kalenjins who decamped to ODM after claims Ruto will not be supported in 2022.

The MP, who is ODM political affairs secretary, gave the address at the party's Orange House headquarters.

Wandayi is an opposition politician who has not shied away from voicing his support for Cord leader Raila Odinga.

He was among several politicians who were kicked out of Parliament for persistently blowing whistles during President Uhuru Kenyatta's State of the Nation address on March 31.

Members of the group led by Kalenjin Association vice chairman Robert Cheruiyot said 'they do not want to be hurt anymore.'

Cheruiyot said they decided to "come back home" after realising it is only through ODM that the community will regain power.

He said they are convinced Jubilee is an alliance of individuals, not communities.

"We must choose to stand up and be counted. We want to be on the right side of history," he said.

Cheruiyot said they will mobilise support for Cord leader Raila Odinga in Rift Valley ahead of the August 2017 general election.

"For the past month, the Kalenjin community has been left in a state of suspended animation with regard to the political future of the community," he said.

After Moi's 24 years dictatorship, RV make very unreliable partners when out of or opposing government.  The Bishop Muges, Seroneys, Chelagat Mutais were reduced to nothing or basically murdered.  Afred "Matapaka" Keter is a lone ranger; a nutcase really.  I woould not put much currency in these events.
