There is a reason decent countries spend a lot of money to get accurate figures about Unemployment. It is no surprise that those countries that keep accurate figures also run the best targeted programs to address the problems they identify.

I have no problem with any of that, i.e. that accurate data is useful for the formulation of good solutions.   My basic question is this: who really wants to solve the unemployment problem in Kenya?

My response to who really wants to solve the unemployment problem in Kenya would be no one. That has been my position all along. The moment such a person appears you shall know because he would start collecting data and applying it to obtain solutions.

Why is there no one? Again I have stated that. Moi and Kenyatta had the idea that if you get rid of data collection, then the problem goes away. They closed the colonial offices where people previously registered for employment- Kenyatta spined it as part of liberty. Before his decree, one could only travel to Nairobi to look for a job with the express permission. Violations led to arrest, imprisonment and deportation to the registered reserve address (= Chief)

Moi simply asked then offices to be vacated.

Kibaki: A mixture of the Kenyatta / Moi paranoia and ignorance.

Uhuru: It would work against spin.

My view is that collecting data that will not be put to any use would be a waste of time and money.   But perhaps the employment of data-collectors could make a tiny dent in the problem?

Not if the data is accessible by the public.
