Pundit

Confirm something for me. I hosted this "In-Law" recently who had this to say:
1. The Nandi are Independent and stubborn and can turn against anybody - even Moi or Ruto
2. Only a third voted for The Project while 2/3 voted for Kibaki
3. Kibaki rewarded the Kipsigis (who voted for Uhuru) and embarked on mass sacking of the Nandi
4. The Nandi were the last to get jobs in the Moi government and the first to be kicked out
5. Moi had it in for the Nandi - Seroney, Mutai and the unsolved death of State House Comptroller, Limo
... [the ICC case] will be tried in Europe, where due procedure and expertise prevail.; ... Second-guessing Ocampo and fantasizing ..has obviously become a national pastime.- NattyDread

Mmh. That is some confusion. I'm not sure of %. In kipsigis it was more 1/3 for kibaki and 2/3 for project. Kanu though won all elective seats in Kipsigis. And lost only two in Nandi..Kirwa(can't even count) and mp for Emgwen Taurus.Otherwise Kanu swept the board.Kalenjin basically revolted against Moi in 2002..however the full revolution would later show up.

The reason..Moi had spent nearly 2 decade spreading anti-kikuyu propoganda only to turn round in a yet to be understood circumstance and endorse Uhuru. Nobody really understand what went on. It must have been high level juju. Folks were waiting for moi to endorse either saitoti or mudavadi or kalonzo. I must say most kalenjin then didn't trust Raila for the same reason they couldn't trust Uhuru or a kikuyu candidate then.

The thing is top politician compete...so seroney was competing with moi and so was dr taita towett and so were many others...obviously when one wins..their lackeys win too.

Moi in my view loved the nandis so much he built Eldoret to be a city it is...from a little town.

In terms of jobs...nandis were their worse enemies (if you take a tribal view) because they did not park the parastals they headed like says mudavadi snr did or arap ngeny did or many others did.

Bottomline: Nobody understand what went wrong with Moi. Many think he become completely senile. The man just flipped. Mara NDP-Kanu mara Uhuru natosha.Saitoti who had been his VP  for 12yrs was apparently not even a leader :D --yet he had been heartbeat (moi's) away from PORK all along.

Somebody put high level juju on moi...many suspect Gideon Moi played his old mind like a fool. Kalenjin see moi and their respect but pity the old man.

Very interesting. Ill pursue the Gideon angle. So what did Gideon gain? I heard this said in 2002. Everyone who went to see Moi about this mistake of naming Uhuru returned back complaining of Gideon.

Gideon hated Mudavadi (can't fault him for that) but why reject Saitoti or Ngala? If Moi wanted a stooge, then alcoholic Ngala was his best option? If he wanted a Kikuyu then Saitoti was a lesser evil than Uhuru.

Still if he wanted his own son, he would engineer it by having Gideon "rebel" against him before reconciling and rigging him in.

Moi could have easily rigged the 2002 election and got away with it. Why did he not?

The schism started I think after 92..KANU A and KANU B...with KANU led by Biwott-Saitoti-Kamotho--while KANU B were led by Jirongos,Kirwas and Rutos. Biwott of course then was de-facto power behind the throne. The big break for KANU B was when they co-opted Gideon Moi who had similar  if not better access but was not interested in politics..just making insane money looting kenya. Moi operated on fitina (intelligence)...so I think Gideon Moi worked well with fitina..specialist like William Ruto...against Biwott and Saitoti..to extend Moi got confused.

Gideon Moi  grp big break came when he brought NDP to KANU. Then I think Moi saw the genious in this young group of fellows. Biwott was ever not interested in any such ideas...believing that KANU security and rigging machinery was too strong for any opposition moves. That NDP-KANU move basically TKO Biwwot and Saitoti grp. Saitoti was so concerned about Raila..he forget these guys had they plan...of NEW KANU.

At some point I think Gideon Moi with Uhuru Kenyatta decided they were going for it. I think this was in middle of KANU-NDP merger. I think they saw Raila and said what hell does he have that we don't. For them Raila only qualification was son of Jaramogi....the same with Mudavadi and Ngalas.

If those were top candidates....and yet there were sons of lesser people..what about Gideon Moi and Uhuru Kenyatta...folks with real pedigree! The rookies then executed their coup and ended up killing KANU and handing Kibaki PORK in a silver platter.

We would probably be under KANU if Moi had chosen Saitoti or Mudavadi or Kalonzo or Raila.
