I get the feeling that a large part of the reason Ruto is getting this kind of pressure is because he is not Kikuyu.  He cannot count on the Kikuyu portion of Nairobi to either stay home or provide an organic counter the demos.  This leads to an over reliance on state institutions like police making it seem more like oppression rather than just partisan division.  This partly explains why we are seeing a resort to these goons.

The civil society demos are happening due to police mis-steps. Ruto can call police to order like it seems Murkomen attempted to do. That is the best avenue.

Civil society can be a fairly fierce opponent; no need to provoke them. Ruto focus should remain service delivery and highlighting Gachagua's raw tribalazing. He must rein in Sakajas.
