Jan 24, 202523:55 EST

Moody's Ratings revised Kenya's outlook to "positive" from "negative," citing a potential reduction in liquidity risks and improved debt affordability over time.

The agency highlighted that low inflation and a stable exchange rate could lead to further declines in domestic borrowing costs as the effects of past monetary policy rate cuts continue to lower long-term borrowing rates.

It also noted that a new International Monetary Fund (IMF) program would bolster Kenya's external financing, with multilateral lenders like the World Bank remaining key funding sources even without IMF support.

Moody's affirmed Kenya's local and foreign-currency long-term issuer ratings at "Caa1." Meanwhile, Standard & Poor's maintains Kenya's credit rating at B- with a stable outlook.

Precisely, still junk status. Anything below A you are looking at very costly debt and a lot of opposing force attracting investment.

Those of US who leave in United States know who credit ratings work. It is biased and meant to Keep African countries borrowing more to stay further in debt. When Moody's give you Caaa+ and you are an African country, you are actually Prime! Brookings have consistently called out this BS! Kenya, under Ruto is managing debts and keeping Kenya liquid after the last guy ran it to the ground! Having 10 BILLION dollars in reserves is a big deal for Kenya since it has not happened since forever. It is expected to hit 15Billion+ in another 3-4 years with current trajectory. For those wo don't know what it that means "Central bank reserves" refers to the funds held by commercial banks in accounts at the central bank, which are essentially the most liquid form of money in the economy, acting as a crucial tool for the central bank to manage money supply and influence interest rates, ultimately impacting overall economic activity by controlling how much money is available for lending by commercial banks; essentially, when central banks adjust reserve levels, they can stimulate or slow down the economy depending on their policy goals"
Quote
According to information from the Kenya Bankers Association, Kenya's dollar reserves in 2014, as of July 7th, stood at approximately USD 6,501.37
Highest under Uhuru
Quote
According to information from the Central Bank of Kenya, Kenya's dollar reserves in 2009 were around $3.166 billion as of September 2009.
Highest under Kibaki was 4.5-6 Billion in 2010-2011!

In 2 yrs Kenya has borrowed over 3 trillion and no major projects are taking place. Most of these funds are being used pay salaries and service debt. Genz have renderer a big blow to Ruto presidency. The big push to make Kenya a main hub for business and attract FDI is bound to fail. Genz has exposed corruption and abductions. Big stain. It's a matter of time before tourism starts to go down. Tz is attracting more tourist than Kenya. How?

Kenya has never been liquid since 2018. The pending bills to SMEs, allocations to counties and now schools' capitation are quite accurate ratings which mean everything for kwinyans.

That's stand at over 1 trillion. Friends who invested in county projects are staring at auctioneers cleaning them out. National disaster.

It's like Pundit and heavy hitter are living in a parallel universe talking about a completely different country. Ruto will have to massively rig in 2027 to pull off a win.

We have almost 2.5 to elections. Kenyans have a very very short memory. In 2 years they won't remember what is happening now. Likey they don't remember 2.5 years ago everything was jammed in Kenya. Cost of energy through the roof, no fuel in circulation, Sugar almost 400 and sugar industry collapsed, Unga, 270, education a mess, most things were collapsing. Ricky G himself told US Uhuru matiangi and his honchos had stolen everything even rats had nothing to eat. Ruto was sworn in and there was only 11 millio shillings to governments name. Counties were not getting their money. Fast forward to now, and things have been restored with Government full and citizens not starving! I would declare my Brother Kaput in July-Aug 2027, but until then, he is a very lethal campaigner and planner 10x Trump! Like I said again, those trying to unseat him better unite and have atleast 1.5-2 trillion shillings because he is massively rich! His estimated networth hit 7 Billion USD this year!

If Mbadi can pull off Finance Bill 2025 you will be back to B- Only Botswana is A- in entire Africa.

GenZ nonsense obviously was chopping the nose to spite the face. Proper opposition should be done through rallies and picketing not Capitol riots and burning the city.

Yes B would be more accurate considering kenya has dealt with debt crisis.
B+ next year.

Wapi? What has changed? Mbadi the other was wailing about bullet payments of $1 billion in 2027, $1 billion in 2028, $1.5 billion by 2031, and $1.2 billion in 2034.

This year's interest payment is $7 (Kshs. 900) mbirioni. Crazy stuff!

We are still in 2024/2025, where these figures are being refinanced through ESG and Diaspora bonds, which are now at risk after Trump.
