Tues 10th August 2027, Election Day
To travel from Nairobi to Marsabit, a distance of 520Km, I used 115Liters of petrol (at the cost of 22K) with a fuel consumption of 22.0L/100Km.With an equivalent electric car (45.0kWh/100km), I'd need 234kWh to cover the 520Km.With KPLC selling 1kWh at 32.5/=, a trader with 50kW DC charging station will charge a minimum of Ksh 100/kWh, which means I'd need 23k for the 234kWh. With the current exorbitant KPLC tariffs, recharging an electric car in Kenya may be as expensive as filling up on petrol.
