Kenyans need to get used to CLOSE elections
« on: April 03, 2023, 07:18:52 PM »
I've been listening to these odmer's and the one thing they keep repeating is that raila got almost 50% of the votes, but that is not the point of democracy and its not how presidential elections work.

Just cause raila got 50% of the votes doesn't mean he deserves 50% of the government and this is the FUNDAMENTAL problem with azimio supporters.

A win is a win and whoever wins takes it all has the right to form his government for the next 5 years.  If you disagree with their policies, you can line up again in 2027 and vote them out

Kenyans need to stop thinking that the country is a false democracy like uganda, rwanda or tanzania where  political parties win with 90% plus of the vote.  Kenya's democracy is much more advanced than it's neighbors and because of that, kenyans and luo's in particular, have to get used to this idea of very close elections and having a close election does not de-legitimize the winner.

Very true. 50+1 means just that in the constitution. With this rate, we may, at one point in time have a candidate win by 7 votes. A win is a win. What makes Ruto's win big is because he was running against the Govt, opposition, media, billions, etc. He beat the odds, especially after his money had been blocked everywhere by UhuruRaila's evil regime. From 2018-2022, Ruto was losing money left right and center that is why, he will not forgive his tomentors anytime soon.

Pia hawana haya.
Normal human being would be ashamed to be beaten with entire system, media, name it.
It has happened to Raila twice.
In 2013 - he had everything going for him - Ruto and Uhuru were facing ICC and western nations.
Raila had half gov, entire western nations, half mps, name it
He still managed to lose in 2013

Raila cannot be helped.

If you remember that we are talking about stolen elections 2013 and 2017 and 2022 you would use the other side of your mouth.

This is actually not a Luo problem. Ni kimtu kimoja who doesn't know how to lose elections. Other Luo's in elections at different levels understand the meaning of 50+1 na hawaleti fujo.

It is not about close elections it is just that in our case the rewards for post-election impunity are immense and guaranteed.

Al Gore won the popular vote- never called for handshake. Clinton won the popular vote by 3 million votes and still went out of the scene completely. Trump and his supporters are being pursued not being called for bipartisan talks on how to be bribed with an office and cars.
