All the recent laws including NACADA, Road safety, Anti-terror laws and name them, with stiff fines , heavy penalities and long jail terms, are just welcome avenues for cops to raise money.

Going by former PPO Mbijjiwe of Waiganjo shame...it seem these guys are involved in all sort of crimes...from top commissioner to small guy.The solution to our security problem is to relook at the POLICE FORCE AGAIN. The police force has consistently led in corruption perception..it become more and more corrupt.

The dim-witted gov led by adolescent screwball five years from now will still be facing security headache.

Dr Ndii offer some solutions...like deloving security to counties..personally i prefer mass transfer of police to their villagers like teachers except for OCS. This will cost gov nearly nothing.

No way police officers will abuse their power and or completely fail in their duties when he is protecting his villagemates.

In the meantime...dim-wit gov will continue with dim-witted solutions...like banning night travel which mess the micro-economy of poor kenyan traders and folks working on 24hr economy.

And of course enriching police force by raising the bribes.

EJK has been happening at a good clip with impunity in Kenya.  Even without repressive laws.

If there is a perfect argument for why repressive laws will not reduce insecurity, one need only refer to EJK.  The only thing these laws achieve is to try to legitimize illegal actions.

If there is something to learn from the US/UK it would be to reduce corruption in the police force.
