These tightly contested elections in US, Kenya and now Brazil mean the societies are sharply divided or the candidates have no convincing campaign platforms. Teh pain of incumbents losing such elections means they will exploit exiting deep states to cause havoc. It is upon the winners to end a strong message. The Trump buggers are being finywad kipoole.

In the US(and maybe parts of the West) it is reactionary.  Throughout its history, it has made small but irreversible gains for "outsiders".  The folks who have always had it good now feel this is enough.  As far as I can tell Republicans are operating on a war-footing.  Democrats are no longer opponents, but "the enemy".  The US is at one of its most vulnerable points in history since the civil war.
