Please allow Ugandan eggs and Sugar into kenya
« on: December 11, 2014, 01:25:56 PM »

If we can't produce them at affordable prices then for heavens sake lets import them. 200 shillings landed cost vis a vis 280 for the locally produced.

What the heck is the kenyan farmer doing wrong to account for all that. It means in Uganda the cost of production is almost half.

The eggs from Uganda are taste-free (tasteless).  No wonder they are cheap!

Precisely. Competition is good even for our companies. They will wake up from slumber or die.

In my opinion opening markets for all agri products will improve competition and create efficeincy. The whole of Africa should be a market place. Agri dept should just create rules on product safety. But, tell that to the economic marauders.. Theywill protect their tuff at every expense.

I think you want to protect the locals some.  Anyone who's been to Ug will tell you they have way more chickens than Kenya.  Oodles of grilled ones are shoved into your windows as soon you cross the boundary.  It's raining chickens there.
