Masters in medicine require a lot of time and funding.
Now with counties - most doctors have retreated to their home counties.

To go for masters - at UON - you basically need to get county to finance you or scholarship - or at least pay half your salary- as you take almost 4yrs at it.

It's been there since 1990s.
There two refferal hospitals in kenya that were capable of producing doctors.
Kenyatta and Moi referral.

Moi school of medicine has existed since 1988.

Moi seems to have more western communities.

No it is a Luo Name.
I schooled with Ceda Ogada. Ceda is the son on the late Prof Dr. Thomas Ogada who was at one time Kenya Ambassador to Geneva

Ceda Ogada was appointed Secretary of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in September, 2020. Prior to this appointment, in 2014 he served as the Deputy General Counsel at the Legal Department (LEG) of the IMF, where he had joined as LEG Counsel in 1999. Mr. Ogada worked, in particular, on country operations and on IMF policy development and application, including governance and anti-corruption issues. He has taught several courses on the legal and policy framework of the IMF and made various presentations on the same at international conferences and seminars.

Prior to joining the IMF, Mr. Ogada worked for the United Nations, and in private legal practice in the United States.

A national of Kenya, Mr. Ogada received his preparatory education in Nairobi. He obtained a liberal arts degree from Dartmouth College with a major in history (1988), and a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School (1991).

Thomas Ariba Ogada (1936-2002), professor of medicine at the University of Nairobi and a former Kenyan ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, was the first black Kenyan elected as a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh & London. Over a distinguished career, he had a major influence on the development of medical education and medical services in Kenya.

He was born in Eldoret, the main town in the Rift Valley area of Kenya, in 1936, when the country was still ruled by a white, British colonial government. His father, Mikail Kiyogo, was chief of the Luo people; his maternal grandmother was a traditional midwife and inspired Ogada to become a doctor.

I doubt UON train those - the few neuron surgeon I know - they mostly go to south africa. Overally we are doing badly in number of doctors and specialist; very badly;

What do Atwoli, Rigati and yours truly have in common? We give birth to Doctors! My boy just graduated. Bring  your grown up females to me, I only score medicine material. I have no interest in making politicians.  As you have rightly called it, foremost this country needs my sperm.

Obviously some of you left this country so long ago never to come back. Plato was telling us here eti he is not aware Moi University at one time the best foreign-funded university, before kales "claimed" it, produces doctors.

I think we can have all counties hospital affliated to universities and they can create medical schools from level 4s; Each county should have a univeristy; and should train their doctors, nurses, and human resources;

WHO recommend 1,000 people per 1 doctor - we only have about 8,000 serving 50million...meaning 1 doctor for nearlly 6000 or so.

So we need to have at least 50,000 doctors.

Each county to have at least 1,000 doctors

If we have 10yr plan - each county should aim to produce 100 doctors annually...maybe 120 to take care of natural attrition.

Our healthcare require serious reforms.

My suggestion remain counties should not run hospitals - they should be handed over to universities - and then counties should focus on making sure everyone has health insurance.

County University should take over KMTC and hospitals in hospital - treat people while training new nurses and doctors.
