Right speed around 10mbps if you have 4G phone. With expected digital roll out of tv..it will free up more frequencies for use by 4G. I think safaricom are using 800MHZ spectrum.

Most people access internet via 2G. Safaricom simcard technology is GSM and is naturally 2G.

2G GSM networks are slow and have a maximum data speed of a couple hundred kb/s

To know which connection is active, open the browser of your cell phone and attempt to access a website. Look at the indication bar, which is usually at the top of the phone's screen, that shows you the cellular signal. If it states 3G, then you know you have a 3G phone.

My blackberry gives me an option to manually switch from 3G to 2G nikiwa mashinani.
