Yes it's big fortune to be born in developed world. That is why we should not look down on others. We are not 100 percent responsible for our success or failures - part of it down to some fortunate of nature or nurture. Huge part of life is RANDOMIZER that churn out luck like a rottery.

However we are responsible for great deal of what happens to us and should take responsibility. Stay humble always.

Luck also involves what country you are born in and I am increasingly seeing the importance of being born in the right country.  Being born in the US or Sweden increases your luck quotient exponentially. Being born in any sub-african country decreases your luck quotient exponentially.

if my dad had not walked into a bank hall and asked wazungus if they hired African I would probably have been born in poverty or not born at all. He told me he was in moi Avenue shopping on a weekday. saw an job ad on the window of the foreign bank. asked the security if he go in amx talk to the hr manager. he got in asked if they would hire him with his experience working as a clerk at ministry of livestock vet department. they told him to come the following Monday for interview. he was hired on the spot and ended up working in banking sector for 35 years.

the way I passed ksce was like I was destined. I had not been studying until in form 3 when I decided I got make one last ditch effort to at least get a grade good enough to land me a diploma course. I commenced a meeting with all my friends
we decided to form an informal study group with one aim to source all leaks we can get from national schools. the good thing most of the guys I was friends with had friends in mangu and alliance plus the then headmaster had found out tat alliance and mang'u were using leaked questions to review for ksce. with this info we divided ourselves into trams. each team was to be expert in the subjects and prepare other students. I took history and literature. I prepares summaries shared them with others. we called them mwakenyas. we then went into maths and picked 6 lessons that we knew it was a must know to pass we reviewed them we did this with all subjects. we had 2 years to prepare. by the time exam came we were ready and I can tell you when I walked into school and saw I had scored a B I was super excited

I got admitted into aviation school in Wilson but my instructor had an emergency and had to be off for 21 days. then I got an admission letter from uni in states and left Wilson to pursue that. all in my life I have been lucky lucky. born into the right family and then given a natural above average brain.

I agree luck is everything in life.

Yes, we need to be humble, I know people who were smart, but they are now in a mess, mostly because they lacked school fees. Cancer also taught me that health we have is fickle - I had been lucky to be born in a family nobody got sick for years -  my father was so cocky because his parents and uncles - siblings - nobody was ever sick - then worse cancer hit him and he had six months - and cancer was discovered on my sister burial. This life is crazy.  One minute you're winning - next minute you're losing. One minute in Karen - next minute dead.

Yes. The answer I have found is to just be adaptable and to be willing to change whenever life's circumstances smack you in the face.  Don't whine, don't drown in your sorrows, just find a way to adapt, change and do you want you need to do.  E.g. Many kenyans left the country when the economy collapsed for their own economic survival. Some refused to leave and were destroyed economically and ended up becoming alcoholics.

Willingness to Change is essential in this unpredictable life.
