ng story short, I lost almost all of my investment accounts in my divorce. My 2 Roth IRAs, my Vanguard and Schwab accounts, my general savings account (emergency fund), etc. Gone. I lost either all of it or most of it in the past year due to my divorce, whether I dipped into them to pay for legal fees or because my ex wife got it. I started saving and investing late too, and I only started doing all of DURING the marriage, to make matters worse. 10 years of hard work just vanished.

I’m 36 years old. Make about $60,000 a year from my job, and I’ve recently become a referee/umpire to make some extra cash. No kids, but I now owe $800 a month in spousal support on top of $1,000 a month in student loans. I’ve just began renting an apartment which is about $1,100 a month. Car is paid off and I can walk to work now so car is around $300 a month with insurance and gas. Food is about $$250 a month? Cell phone is $120 And other than that I don’t have anything else. I’ve sold a lot of my stuff during the divorce to make some extra money.

I don’t even know what to do right now. I’m so lost and I feel hopeless. I’m not totally broke of course which I’m thankful for, but I just don’t even know where to begin again. I was on track to FIRE even though I started late and now I have to start all over again.

What should I do?

I married traditionally for that reason  and we got lawyer affidavit thing done - works for most of stuff - except nowadays they demand civil registration - for example passport office - but we ended divided the kid - my son is in my file and daughter her file. I keep my properties separate from my wife. Always have one foot outside.

The law is an ass. In a divorce she gets 50% or  more of your property and she even keeps the kids.


Lol. Marriage is for fools. 60% of fools in us die very poor due to this. The other 40% is in marriage jail for life. I work with couples on financial stuff. The things I see i can say man it is fucked up. The amount of marriages that are there due to fear of financial ruin and just pride are many.

Well there is nothing like going home to a wife - and kids. It feel just homly. That is why most married people live longer and happier than single folks. But  you need your own space, life, money, properties - even - if married. The law is an arse. It can be beaten kama punda. Hide your wealth.

Anyway there is no need of hiding it. If you love your wifegirlfriend let her be part of the empire or she will bolt. Women like security. so her knowing if she kills you she keeps everything is enough to keep her with you for a lifetime. Just be rich coz any sign of poverty you will be left alone.
