So the governors have the power to deploy National Guard? Under whose command does the National Guard rest?

Would a General in the normal military formation agree to deploy against civilians in US?

What would force the military to ask congress to intervene or if that failed what would result in Trump crossing the line and being removed from power

seems to me that Trump is trending on a very thin line

Trump right now is operating as an elected dictator.  On that basis, the law matters little, because the Republican party has decided it does not.

But from my little understanding, there is an insurrection act that could permit the deployment of the military if the governor asks for it.  So, Trump does not enjoy unilateral power to do so.  These are the kind of things I suspect we will be dealing with until January when hopefully he is removed from the White House in handcuffs.

We may be hearing from SCOTUS soon on his tax returns.  That could be another trigger for even more dangerous behavior.

Yes, this is the greatest collapse of GOP in history. they have really abandoned any pretense that they believe in Democracy. I logged in to a radio talk show in my state. The amount of gas lighting by White conservatives who now at all sudden are libertarians. It was really shocking the amount of mental gymnastics that this host was really engaging in. Anyway White power needs to change its mind and heart or it will be a long road to losing power
