There is sense in this. The problem is that the world has lost its head(s). There is a lot of hysteria and pure exaggeration.
It is a fact that majority of those infected experience mild to moderate symptoms. The most vulnerable are the elderly and the already sick from other ailments/conditions such as HIV/AIDS, pneumonia, TB, diabetes and those ailing cancer. And even among these most vulnerable the mortality rate is about 3%.
Italy is most affected as it have oldest population in Europe. And in addition Italians (as compared to other Europeans) are more 'family oriented' such that old people live with their children and their grandchildren (as compared to other European and NorthAmericans). That explains why number of deaths in Italy is almost horrendous.
Then there are therapies such as Malaria drugs that alleviate, suppress and even get rid of the virus. One doctor explained to me that the reason they cannot announce that Chloroquine is a cure is because medically it must have gone thorough testing, testing and necessary approvals.
In short Covid-19 is not a death sentence as media hype would portray it. Yes, it is good and proper to take precautions and preventive measures but locking down a country because of one or two cases is actually overdoing it.
African countries have relatively younger population. Therefore expectations are that most have sufficiently stronger immunity to overcome Coronavirus. Then of course African heat is also an advantage as the virus is scientifically determined to thrive well in cold climates.
The British are doing the opposite...and there seem more sensible.
On Friday, Britain’s chief scientific adviser, Patrick Vallance, said that 40 million people would need to catch the coronavirus to build up “herd immunity.” He said that the government’s approach could help “reduce the peak of the epidemic, pull it down, and broaden it” while protecting the elderly and vulnerable. “If you suppress something very, very hard, when you release those measures it bounces back, and it bounces back at the wrong time,” he told the BBC. This suggested that the government considered mass infection to be inevitable.
This thing is hard to completely control. There are many avenues for people to interact. Here in Narok villagers are still shaking hands and survey indicates that only 30 percent of people believe that covid 19 is in Kenya. Museveni might tougher that ouru but this thing is a whole different ball game all together. Let's hope for a cure sooner.
