More humbug. Jomo and his Kanu thugs started violence on poor Luos - KPU - as early as 1966 when Jaramogi decamped from Kanu. There was a mass of by-elections. No single violence was reported entire Nyanza - despite Mboya and Kanu provocation and abuse of GoK apparatus - like VoK and police to block KPU rallies. Jomo invented political violence just as he invented elite corruption. Moi fuatad Nyayo by doubling down on violence, detentions, torture, name it - and formalizing sleaze as "harambee". Moi would butcher Kikuyus in Molo and Timboroa every election - 1992 and 1997. Ruto - with PEV under his belt and the manifesto of quivers - has perfected violence and sleaze as political tools. According to his earlier plans, by now he should have rallied the Kikuyu solidly behind him and on his way to get the Kamba, or the Luhyia and then split the rest. Yes Ruto has a penchant for test runs. He earlier tried to hawk Eugene Wamalwa in Nairobi but was scared by Sonko. Mariga and Kibra was a poor call because it obscures the by-election into a 2022 curtain-raiser. It will not be accurate or fair to view a Mariga loss as a lack of traction in Luhya. More a test of hubris and the power of money. In any case Luhya just like Kamba vote 90% Babu then split the downstream ballot. Hence Sakaja and Sonko. They are not an easy measure like say Luo or Kikuyu.

Yes Ruto banked a solid 54% brimming with Kalenjin and Kikuyu as at March 8th, 2018. Babu raided the bank. Now he is staring at a disaster - fighting for Kikuyu with Uhuru. Kamba with a Kamba son.
