Some time back some top scholars from Mt. Kenya region claimed to have done deep research and found out their region contributes 60% of the country's GDP. Had they taken for granted Nairobi and Nakuru counties were to 100% part of their backyards?

Yeap - I think some people confuse hawking with real GDP . When it comes to taxes - majority of it comes from PAYE - employees of all sorts - all over the country. I think this should settle the debate and everyone should be happy to get their fair share of allocation of county money.

KNBs just looked at the taxes that's being collected per county. Nyandarua has more formal companies than kirinyaga,nyeri or muranga, i.e flower companies. World bank had a report on the richest counties per capita https://victormatara.com/list-of-top-10-richest-counties-in-kenya-2018/ . knbs just looked at where formal companies are domiciled. Even if one were to look at local counties taxes collection there's no coalition. Counties that don't have formal industries that pay taxes, paye etc will always have their numbers eschewed. However if taxes like vat or exercise tax were charged at point of purchase like in america those numbers would change  similar to the world bank report. A company like safaricom get majority of its sales outside nairobi. That data should be broken down per county to truly get a clear picture of gdp per county. Its the biggest tax payer paying vat and excise tax. Only income taxes should be accredited to Nairobi and sales taxes of Nairobi sales.

I downloaded their report and they seem thorough. It appears Nyandarua has been really growing - together with Elgeyo Marakwet. Nyandarau is doing well in Agriculture (33 to 40% of potato production - 2nd most important food crop in kenya now), I guess horticuluture (vegetables) and dairy - so their fortunes maybe changing. Their GCP has risen from 85B to nearly 250B.

Honestly I don't know how they add up Nyandarau production or any county to such eye popping figures. I'd imagine potato production nationally at maybe 1B dollars...so that would give Nyandarau maybe 40B? Maybe Dairy they'd get a share of say 20-40B? Horticulture maybe another 20-40B? And other crops maybe 20-40B - total of 100-150B - and the rest of sectors would then add an extra 100-150B?

Obviously it doesn't capture that fact that farm gate prices of whatever Nyandarau produce is a far crying from what obtains in the market and hence the widespread poverty there.

Actually checked 2017 - Nyandarua potato production was mere 8B Kshs worth. This GCP is a mess.
