He has given the thieves three months to return the money.

Wow.  Is that really his son?  It's amazing how kids of rich Africans idolize the gangsta meme.

What really surprises me about this new demand is that Mnangagwa has been around since independence.  A Mugabe insider.  All this while, it never crossed his mind to whisper to Mugabe that this money should be returned?

One of the things I admire about the Japanese is that public displays of wealth are considered to be in truly bad taste and would seriously damage ones reputation.   This also means that the really rich don't blow their money on "show-off" things: huge mansions, yachts, private jets, etc.   And anything involving a display of a huge wad of cash would be considered simply barbaric.

A rich brother has to be seen.  I think it's a subconscious reaction to prejudice.  A loaded Negro will wear enough jewelry to stock an expo, just to walk down the street, in case you harbor any doubt.

The Sultan does it as a strategy to entrench sultancy and is quite effective. He's not conceited. The ex-con can't help himself and struggles to stop.
