Ruto and Uhuru are not friends nor are they close. They tolerate each other amid backbiting, backstabbing and mutual undermining. There is no bromance. Even your love affair with pundit is much stronger.

The story describes a fear by one side. A fear of a coup against Raila. This is one of the motivations of some seeking a negotiated arrangement.

Robina, Power is not all about Numbers just like life is not all about money.  Some people have a lot of money and yet they do not have  power and some people have huge numbers and yet they do not have a lot of power. Its the quality of people you have that matters. Ruto and Uhuru have amassed a lot of wealth for the purpose of buying power, but they will soon realize that money is not enough to buy all the power. The people that can be bought are so many but they are of poor quality and they do not confer power.  Its the People who cannot be bought that you need on your side to be powerful. This is why Ouru is angry and panicking yet he has a lot of people around him who he literally bought. He is obsessed with leaders like Raila whom he cannot buy but need to break down somehow, except they are not bowing to him. This frustrates and infuriates him. He is probably wondering what else is left for him to do for these people to respect him and obey him.
