First such ruling in Africa!
« on: September 01, 2017, 12:20:09 PM »
For sure, whatever happens next, we have made a YUUUUUGE stride not just for ourselves but for our continent in the cause of creating and strengthening CREDIBLE and functional INSTITUTIONS (not personalities).

I'm happy for opportunities to improve our systems and build trust in them (not sure this will happen with UN and other bodies being proposed though). However, I'm disappointed that we spend another two freaking months politicking. It's ruining the economy. Ethiopia started catching up with us in 2008 when our growth rate declined and they sustained theirs.

I'm also very disappointed in IEBC. Maybe it was the time pressure, but how do several IEBC officers at a polling station make such rookie errors such as failing to submit signed documents, knowing very well the magnitude of their responsibilities? Is it because us Kenyans cannot run something like this that requires very high organizational capabilities? Even party nominations tend to be very disorganized processes.

I'd have hoped that the ruling would have reflected the will of the people (my firm belief is that Jubilee will win handily) -- we probably have the most expensive elections in Africa, let alone an economy performing suboptimally.

That said, I'm still happy if our institutions are strengthened.

I have always wondered about that.  Why is it that we Africans have a problem running huge operations successfully while our western and Asian counterparts are able to do it very easily.  Take just a simple example like running an airport.  We do have a problem running things and I do not know what to attribute that to.

Kichwa some of us on this podium already proposed that running of the "huge operation" called GoK should be outsourced to capable hands. Until we can figure it out. We were exorcised.

How to strengthen our institutions is very key. Instead of so many useless bills, clauses we need to have simpler practical accountability measures.

Say how much power does Chebukati hold over Chiloba or a Returning Officer or a Presiding Officer. What happens if a O or Po switches off the phone?? Given the costs associated with these elections irregularities and illegalities which can easily be avoided we need to be very hard on the election officers.

Given the fate of Kivuitu, Ahmednassir and now what awaits Chebukati & Chiloba, the IEBC leadership will have to work to ensure elections stop being a casual affair.

It's a victory for Kenyans.  Nothing as good as having a  government  that works. Ruto  believes in a governmental that is  for a few  and will kill to get it

Actually, it's the small things that the African has trouble accomplishing.  Most of them just clerical in nature.  But they add up in a big way.
