Kenya is Back in the 1980s

First it was Mwai Kibaki. Now Uhuru Kenyatta.

These are men who never fought for multi-party democracy and have no understanding for the gains that were made in the 90s upto 2010. These are men who took over the US leadership after Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. They stand for the reversal of all those gains.

The result of reverting to status quo ante is that it is not a buffet. They will and have restored the old dictatorship with killings, detentions, harassment of NGOs, intimidation of courts, disappearances, killings, All Powerful "Provincial Administration" and the subjugation and eventual destruction of Devolution. But they should equally prepare for the same forces that brought similar maleficence to return in full force.

Watching footage of the abortive KRA and NIS raid of Africog,  I noticed something interesting: Most of those who came to the aid of Gladwell Otieno were the figures from the anti-moi struggle. There was John Khaminwa, aged but still firm, leading them. The who and who of Civil Society in the Moi days - some previously co opted by Kibaki - had returned. Even those who are now part and parcel of the Uhuru Dictatorship - Paul Muite and Kiraitu Murungi - raised their voices against the raid.

I believe we shall be seeing a lot of this as time goes by. Uhuru will most likely re-introduce detention without trial. There will be low and high level assassinations and the constitution will revert back to the old one in all but name.

Prepare for an eventual catharsis.
