This 10,000 is way to high for experimental work. They just needed a representative sample.

Even poll companies do not need to go around collecting views from all population but only need a small, but representative sample to gauge the status of a whole with a decent level of confidence.

This project seems to have been conceived mainly for corruption and food insecurity is secondary.

10K acres when the target is 1M acres is a representative sample.

you are right, 1m acres with 95% level of confidence and 1% error margin gives around 10k acres. And 99% LOC with 1% MOE gives around 16k acres.

Hopefully this will not kill Rift valley farming.

RV farming need to form for higher value chains stuff - dairy, horticulture, floriculture and such kind of farmings -is where a small holder can really add value - maize, wheat, beans and sugar cane should be -+-
grown in large scale.

I agree. The small holders need to shift to the suggest sectors. Its not economically viable to grow maize on less than 5 acres . More to it I think NCPB need to be disbanded or to only concentrate on strategic reserve for cereals. NCPB keeps the price of maize artificially high so farmers havent had the incentive to improve productivity.
