Privately initiated by returning Ethiopia - Just imagine If Kidero could turn Dandora into energy plant - we could be talking 100MW - that could earn Nairobi county lots of money

ethiopia government has done feasibility for w2e plants for its reasonably large cities... Uk company is doing design build contract..

Meanwhile some kenya counties are also catching up on it. Nakuru have finished feasibility study and eldoret has also tendered for feasibility recently. Nairobi is a cartel county...nothing much is expected of it.

Every other sub-sahara African country need to stop trips to western nations and trek to Ethiopia to see how it's done. They have definitely developed a working recipe.

Counties can't hack this one they should focus on beyond zero maternal health, 100% school enrollments, etc. National government coal power should be excess (cheap); then cheap SGR, SEZs. Efficiency is the route for us: skilled labor and cheap amenities.

RVItem & Robina,
I think this about killing two bird with one stones. Counties have huge problem managing waste. Nairobi is a messy. Kisumu is even messier - I saw they converted Moi stadium to dumpsit. With such power station -they get paid to collect garbage.

I don't know if there is any more critical job the urban counties do than collecting garbaga and moving garbage.

This is something that can become profitable for them - the money earned from burning this garbage to generate power - could be surplus.

Kidero talked big about some Germany company doing this - but nothing has come out of this.

Ride on!!
When you have a bunch of school dropouts, its impossible to progress.

Waste to energy plants may not be very attractive in africa. Seems that most revenue in west is in combined heat/electricity plants that use waste heat to for central heating.

At least just for Nairobi, where there appears to be no shortage of "raw materials":

The key difference I see between Ethios and Kenya is execution.  Less talk, more action.
