MacDonalds should be opening next year. I think the franchise has already been given out.

folks may focus on obesity (like you're suppose to eat daily from there) but I think these international brands bring in world class standards that will influence our local brands.

There's a 1 year waiting list in Sydney to own a McDonalds franchise. A down payment of a million bucks. In Seoul, McDonalds is considered a luxury place with burgers costing over ten bucks. Maccas is the quintessential American soft power. Those guys attend APEC and global nation meetings. I don't think with terrorists in Kenya we'll be seeing maccas any time soon. I think the most quickest route is to donate a piece of land for an American army base. The trend of fatty franchises follow American army presence.

I don't know if I would call that good news. The reason being middle class and people conscious of their health in America are running away from such poorly made food. In America fast food has now been relegated to be the food of the poor. I would agree with you that them coming to kenya is a recognition that the Kenyan middle class person has extra disposable income to take their families out to eat. But the health implications will be hard to ignore.

Ole,
Welcome back. What we need is competition to bring prices to acceptable levels. Theres a lack of competition in Kenya, so prices are high. All industries that go with food production, distribution, will flourish bringing more jobs.
