In particular. Shot in JNB

When Afrobeats met Kwaito.  Iconic video.

Also Chike & Mohbad.  Naija cultural appropriation of Limpopo(Wanitwa Mos) style.

Very, very nice! I'm starting to get addicted to that Limpopo style. Very soothing yet sturdy at the same time. Kazi safi sana.

Before he went bankrupt! Reminds me very much of the dancefloor at Shak-a-tak disco/Tandoori, Diani Beach Road, South Coast circa Krisi hols 2009/10. Njamba/KenyanPlato, si you remember that place😁? Apparently it's still going strong. I loved the open air makuti set up that it was back then. Beats would ricochet onto the street from this track very nicely!

I see someone has decided to come out with big guns blazing, musically speaking :D! Big joint back in the day. Has a Bobby Valentino, Tell Me melody and vibe to it. Kali sana. 2005-2010 was another sweet spot of music IMHO. Mellow vibes, good beats, just good times, no drama or politicking on the beat.

Sunday morning coffee in the verandah music. Song meaning "the sins of love"
Let's just admit it. The Mzansi folks have it locked when it comes to deep morose-ful songs that hit the soul.
As I always say, where the black man experiences the worst collective suffering, the music comes out top notch.
Apartheid in this case!

Enjoy your Sunday, peeps

Even Biggie admitted that this track was hot despite him being it's victim🤣.
The difference between Pac's and Biggie's music IMHO was that though both lyrical geniuses, Biggie spoke to people's brains but Pac spoke to people's hearts! That's why he was so loved/a bigger star compared to Biggie!

I can't believe it's almost 2 years since this talent left us.

Iggy Pop - The Passenger (Official Video)

Iggy is the punk legend. I dare say Elvis-level, if he wasn't such a rebel.

🎤🎶🔈🎤🔥💯

I am a passenger
And I ride, and I ride
I ride through the city's backsides
I see the stars come out of the sky
Yeah, they're bright in a hollow sky
You know it looks so good tonight

I am the passenger
I stay under glass
I look through my window so bright
I see the stars come out tonight
I see the bright and hollow sky
Over the city's ripped back sky
And everything looks good tonight

Singin' la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la, la la

🔥🔥🔥
You have a unique talent for picking bangers that stand the test of time😁
Like  Ciara's "Keep dancing", this is a joint I can listen to 10 years from now and still appreciate!
Asante sana.

The good ones always die young, brother. Talented indeed. Very rare to find a singer that can also play an instrument these days.

Trompies! Very nice track, asante sana.

Spikiri  -- Soweto's finest - has always been BAD NEWS!

One of my favourite Spikiri joints;

Ngeke balunge - "They will never win against us" which is a clever play on MJ's "they don't really care about us!"

Feat. the usual suspects! Brown Dash (R.I.P) , Brickz,  TEARGAS (that name always makes me crack up) and more..

Unfortunately Brickz with his signature rapid flow sing-songy style stole the show on this track IMHO.

Whatever happened to Kalawa Jazmee? It ruled that era.  I don't hear much about it these days!

L'vovo - Summertime

Reminds my oath ceremony to become a USC. Where they made us wave our mini flags tingla tangla as we sang the Star Spangled Banner. I remember how two very young Kenyans in the military were also in our group, getting ready to get theirs as well. The funny thing is that when I greeted them; "Vipi?" in swa, they seemed highly uncomfortable with identifying with their Kenyan-ness. This song -- from a mixtape I had at the time -- was playing in the car as I drove home. And it just so happened that the season was indeed Summertime! Good memories.
