1960s-1990s-7MN-8MN Population.
The Kenyan population was less than 15MN, back in those days majority Kenyans lived in rural areas, the literacy rates were very low. In those days, due to low population and good climate, there was plenty of food either through farming and livestock production in the pastoralist areas. With less literacy, good climate and economic stability, the majority populace was less interested in political activities.
2024-60MN Population.
30% or 18MN Kenyans live in urban areas like Nairobi, Kakamega, Mombasa, Nakuru. These numbers are growing at a rate of 3.4%. The median age is 19.5 which means half the Kenyan population is below 19.5 Years, in literal terms over 25,000,000 Kenyans are below the age of 20Years.
According to Federation of Kenyans ,15-34Yr old who form 35% of the population have an unemployment rate of 67%. 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census Reports states 80% of these Kenyans who live in urban areas renting. With such high levels of unemployment, unstable low income, how are the over 10,000,000 Kenyans living in kariobangi, Likoni, kakamega, Nakuru paying housing rent? How are they able to buy food or afford healthcare?
In the rural areas, with climate change, land sub-division and population explosion, it means there is no enough land to farm and not enough food to eat. In the worst-case scenario, the young people migrate to urban areas, they will either join criminal gangs,Middle East slavery jobs or prostitution.
The Cause of unemployment and poverty.
Under the Kenyan political system, When the president or governor wins an election, He appoints his friends and business associates as ministers and heads of parastatal. He then goes ahead to borrow money to finance fake or non-existent projects. Over the last 15 years, We have borrowed over 10TN Kenya shillings, Majority of that money was meant to build roads, dams, education and health projects but there is nothing to show for it.Politicians use the stolen money to buy banks, build hotels, hospitals and real estate, invest in aviation and government bonds and employ their cronies and relatives to manage this wealth. That means that if you are not connected to these political organizations which are fueled by ethnic kingpins you are likely to die either of hunger, disease or end up in jail. This system is aided by a corrupt police force which violently cracks down on helpless young Kenyans who are just airing their views.Young men who give up like Kasamuel,Gaucho nuru okanga, conman morara join the system.
END GAME.
The majority of this population is educated. With the internet access, social media connectivity, frustrated, poor and helpless people are able to access audit reports of how taxes are misused by the political class which feeds on ethnic decision. On June 2024,We saw Kenyans break that tribal barrier and make their voice heard. The Raila Ruto handshake, violent crackdown, abductions and Gachagua impeachment circus which created an ethnic angle saw the protests end on the streets but the question before us, Did the protests end in the minds and hearts of the “anarchist GENzs”?What happens next? How will the affected hopeless educated people air their views in this system?
