This is not something to celebrate about rather it should be mourned. Poor leadership has led to hunger.
Dont say Ruto wasnt paer of govt since 1992, and so far I dont see him addressing food security in the wake of Ukraine.
Wasnt he agri minister at one time??

Farming is seasonal.
You cannot produce for 10yrs.
Drought affect everyone including California farming.
Last regime dropped the ball.
Ruto understand farming and will nail it;
It is be prepared for planting season of jan-april - as kenya has one planting season - due to long rains once a year.
That is why fertilizers have to arrive early
If we miss jan-april - we get into same problem.
Critical to ensure as of now dec- farmers who plant early - have cheap fertilizers.

This year is gone. We can only talk about June-Aug 2023 when we get new harvest.

Who are the foreign suppliers?

Who are the ship owners to transport the cereals?

Who are these local miller's?

1.5MN Tonnes X 60USD ($20 from seller + 20 from ship owner + 20 from the local miller's)= 90MN USD.

So UDA leaders will pocket 10BN from this.

Maize not falling below 5,000 during harvest season means there is very little maize. Kuria was right, if the farmers are hoarding maize to hell with them. I also don't foresee a way maize will cost more than 7,000 if that is what farmers are predicting. Market forces will give them an elbow mid January.

Kuria approach is wrong;
Gov should do such things kipole;
Just issue a notice to import maize and play dumb;
Those North Rift politician have made maize political;
He should have gone for rice;
Rice in kenya is the real competitor for maize;
As many many people are switching to rice;
most people have taken to eating rice for lunch;
Ugali of course is still big deal due to it high calorific content and easy preparation.
Kenya should import duty free rice pronto;
Then duty free grains should be by defaut;
Farmers should give subsidized fertilizers;

In any case we are getting duty free maize and rice from UG and TZ

Ethiopia are doing what they call cluster farming;
basically aggregating smallholder farms into large scale farms;
That allows for mechanization

Country consumes 700,000 maybe a million metric tonnes.
Mwea and etc can barely get 200,000 tonnes.
I think mwea alone is something 100-150k.
The rest Tanzania is filling mostly.
