Yes. Xerson Oblast (also known as Khersonshchyna) is an oblast (province) in southern Ukraine, currently claimed by Russia who are now fleeing. It is located just north of Crimea. Its administrative center is Xerson, on the West Bank of the Dnieper River.

I was able to confirm with Reuters.  That is what the Russians are saying and obviously lying about their rationale.  They are accepting this humiliation(even with the lies) to avoid the bigger humiliation of being further exposed as not capable of going toe to toe with Ukraine.
