The impression I have is the Republicans are digging in despite the media backlash.  To win a primary nomination in today's GOP, you have to flaunt Trumpist credentials.  So each incoming GOP congress is worse than the prior, making the current one the absolute worst.  The base believe they are in an undeclared war(not just a political contest) against the woke mob.
